Children & Youth Ministry
Young people are welcome at Bethel and we support Baptismal promises that help children grow in Christian faith and love. Baptismal responsibilities of parents, sponsors, and congregation members are to
† Live with them among God’s people
† Bring them to the word of God and Holy Communion
† Teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments
† Place in their hands the Holy Scriptures
† Nurture them in faith and prayer
Sunday School – Kids of all ages are welcome to join us the first and third Sundays of the month from September through May for a Bible story, games, and songs. Please fill out the form to enroll your child(ren) into our Sunday School Program. You may also contact us to receive email updates about the Sunday School program and youth activities.
Vacation Bible School – Vacation Bible School is an opportunity for kids to get together over the summer for a week of learning about God, meeting new friends, and having fun! Look for more information in our summer newsletters.
Youth Group – The Northern Great Lakes Synod Youth Ministry Team helps coordinate Conference-Wide Youth Group Activities for 7-12 graders. Check the calendar or email youthcoordinator@nglsynod.org for upcoming events.
Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp – Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp in Crystal Falls, MI provides opportunities for youth retreats and summer camp programs that help kids grow in their faith and encounter God’s grace through outdoor ministry. Intergenerational programs at FLLC give parents, grandparents, and other important adults in a child’s life the opportunity to spend quality time together in a community that provides faith-filled experiences in God’s creation.
First Communion – Instruction for a child’s First Communion is a significant step in their faith journey and usually takes place sometime during grade school. Contact the pastor if you have questions or if your child is ready to participate in an upcoming First Communion class.
Confirmation Class – Students at Bethel traditionally complete a series of Confirmation Classes in 7th and 8th grade to affirm their baptisms and publicly profess their faith in Christ. Contact the pastor for more information.
Bethel Lutheran Church is committed to providing a sacred and safe space for all children. Read Bethel’s Child Protection Policy here.
Hospitality Ministry
One way the congregation of Bethel welcomes people and shows love is through the sharing of food and fellowship. Volunteers are needed to coordinate weekly coffee hours, funeral meals, and occasional special events.
I Care Ministry
The I Care ministry at Bethel was started by a congregation member who saw a need in our community. She noticed that many students did not have access to basic hygiene items such as toothpaste, deodorant, and soap so she labeled a collection bin in the foyer at Bethel and asked congregation members to donate these types of items as they were able to. The ministry has expanded to include easy-to-prepare meals and snacks to help prevent kids from being hungry. The outpouring of generosity continues today, and the Menominee Area Public Schools are grateful when items from the bin are delivered throughout the year.
Ministry Assistants
There are a number of ways to get involved with Sunday worship at Bethel. Volunteers are needed each week to serve as worship assistants, readers, greeters, ushers, altar guild members, and acolytes. Your gifts of time and talent are appreciated! Please contact us to sign up for any of these ministry opportunities.
Music Ministry
Music is a special part of worship at Bethel. The choir at Bethel is open to anyone who wants to sing praises to God. Rehearsals take place Wednesday evenings and the choir sings on Sunday mornings and also at other times during the year. Our youngest members can be heard singing their favorite songs from Sunday School at select services throughout the year and special music of any kind is always welcome!
Property Ministry
Just like any home, the house of worship at Bethel requires regular maintenance and upkeep. Ministering to the building’s needs is a labor of love and helps provide a safe and welcoming space for gathering. Assistance is needed for special projects as well as seasonal help keeping the sidewalks cleared of snow, the lawn mowed, and shrubs trimmed.
Quilting Ministry
The Forget-Me-Knot Quilters meet monthly to share their time, talent, and love of quilting. The quilts they make get donated locally to people in need as well as globally through Lutheran World Relief. Each fall, additional congregations and volunteers from the community gather to load a boxcar full of quilts and other donations for Lutheran World Relief. Donations of fabric, sheets, thread, and yarn are always welcome!
